Commando is in my opinion THE stereotypical 80s action movie. Just a fantastic film overall.Īfter those two I think we fall a little bit into guilty pleasure territory.

It establishes how badass the team is and makes the rest of the movie of them struggling against this terrifying other worldly threat that much more effective. Begin the film with a traditional over the top 80s action scene where the team lays waste to a small army with ease. Who knew the formula would work so well? Lets take a group of muscle head action stars, led by THE premier action star of the decade. Predator is a close 2nd, this movie is aging really well in my opinion. It’s as much a slasher flick as it it an action movie. But Terminator 1 is a fantastic sci-fi thriller in its own right. It’s a bit overshadowed now by its sequel which is legitimately one of the greatest action films every made. I think Terminator is probably the best film of this group. Without a doubt this is Schwarzenegger's greatest role, and I wish someone somewhere would produce a Conan the King based on Milius' existing script before Schwarzenegger is too old to do it. A character so charismatic that you almost start to root for him. And finally, James Earl Jones throwing down a master class performance as the antagonist Thulsa Doom. Max von Sydow bringing a bit of prestige to the whole production. All that and Arnold speaking short gruff lines that make the most of his lack of acting ability and his fantastic appearance (if I'm remembering correctly, he said in the commentary that he worked out harder for the film than for Mr. An action/adventure movie that's heavy on philosophy and theology, digging deep into Nietzscheism, and straight satirizing hippy cults and the new age movement.
